Forgot God’s will?  Time to take a u-turn.

10/13/2013

"13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:  14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.  15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that."

James 4:13-15

The most often asked question from Christians is this:  how can I know what God wants me to do in my life?  Have you been disappointed not receiving the answer, or receiving an answer you didn’t think was the right one?

If you are asking about God’s will, you are already on the right track!   Don’t be like the merchants of James 4:13 who decided to ignore God’s plan all together and make their own plan.  They decided to buy goods at one town and resell the same goods in another town to gain a large profit; they felt they could make a lot of money.  They never thought to themselves, will the Lord give us another day to do this?

If you are asking about God’s will, you will find that God will lead you on a journey you never thought you would take.  God has a personalized plan for you; don’t abandon Him to follow your own plan.  Future Pastors, missionaries, worship leaders, or Sunday School teachers have forsaken God’s will for prizes or prestige; when they stand before the judgment seat of Christ, they will be filled with many regrets on what they could have done for Him.

If you are asking about God’s will because you don’t want to do what He has already asked you to do, remember that His will are not requests.  They are His marching orders; as a good soldier of Christ, participate fully in the will of the Lord in your life and take the path He has laid out for you.  He is not going to mail you a list of suggestions; instead, as you participate in your local church, stay faithful to reading the Bible, and live a life that is holy and pure before Him – He will slowly show you the place He has for you in His kingdom.

Think about this:

How much farther along would God’s church be if everyone did what He asked them to do?  What are the missed opportunities you never knew about because you decided it would be your way, not His?  Good news. You can begin the grand adventure now; turn off the wrong path, take a major U-turn, and follow after Him!
