Come to Him as a little child

10/8/2014

"6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." 1 Peter 5:6-7

"Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein." Mark 10:15

There are so many cares in the world; equally, there is so much pride. As we learned in our last blog post, those who follow the path of pride are resisted by God, and those who follow the path of humility are given grace. (James 4:6)

With so many cares in the world, you would think we would pray more often for His provisions. Elders on social security are getting less and less; medicare doesn't cover even basic needs; government healthcare was rolled out with tons of problems; the price of gas, food, and basic clothing is sometimes not affordable to the hardest working people, either here or around the world.

Many godly, wonderful people are attempting to solve these issues for their fellow human beings. Many more people have taken the problems into their own hands and have forgotten to include God. It is pride that says, “I know better than God, I can solve these problems on my own.” Just because our problems are not solved as fast as we would like it to be solved does not give us the right to solve them on our own. While we probably won’t open the front door and find boxes of food or a stash of money, the Lord may strengthen us to get a second job, provide extra help from unexpected sources, or provide for a miracle.

How do we know if we are trusting the Lord to take care of all our needs? Observe a toddler. What can the toddler do to get food? Nothing; they must wait to be fed from their parents. How can they change their diaper or get new clothes for the day? They must wait for their parents to take care of them. Jesus said something similar about how we must come to Him. You must come to God as a little child (Mark 10:15).

In the eyes of God, are you a little child?

Steadfast Christians Lost in Their Love for Him

7/31/2013

"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers."  Acts 2:42

Acts 2:42 tells us that the early Christians were steadfast in three things:  * the Apostle’s doctrine, *fellowship, * the Lord’s table, and * prayers.  In other words, the early Christians had a faith which was more than just believing in Him; they were diligent in the disciplines that God had taught them.  They didn’t just “amen” the preacher to death on Sunday only to live like the wicked world on Monday!  Their testimony helped to bear witness to the truth of Jesus in the world.

Matthew 6:33-34 - What are you seeking after?  What are you looking for?

7/1/2013

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
- Matthew 6:33-34

Is food, drink, clothing, or the cares of this life the only thing you worry about? [Matthew 6:25] We learn in the sermon on the Mount that the secret to living an Abundant Life is:  a) not a secret and b) not found in the temporary needs of life.  The needs of life are only an end to help us trust Him more.  Our Father in Heaven knows exactly what you need; we should trust that He will provide for what we need and not always what we want.  Let’s live the life of victory by living life the way He intended it.

Faith, Light, and Life!

4/30/2013

"3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints"
Colossians 1:3-4
Picture
Todays' scriptures point out that we can rejoice in our faith not because we believe in anything, but because we believe in Christ!

Everybody wants to have faith in something or someone who is bigger than themselves, even if it is the ideal person they wish to be.  Atheists and agnostics are forced to have faith in themselves or in humanity as a whole.  There is an innate desire inside all of us to believe in something.
