"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." Acts 2:42
Acts 2:42 tells us that the early Christians were steadfast in three things: * the Apostle’s doctrine, *fellowship, * the Lord’s table, and * prayers. In other words, the early Christians had a faith which was more than just believing in Him; they were diligent in the disciplines that God had taught them. They didn’t just “amen” the preacher to death on Sunday only to live like the wicked world on Monday! Their testimony helped to bear witness to the truth of Jesus in the world.
What kind of decisions do we make in front of unbelievers? What kind of life do we live when no one else watching us? What kind of life will leave a lasting impression?
Steadfast in the Apostle’s Doctrine: Worldly philosophy is not lasting; but the teachings of the Apostles, namely the Holy Scriptures – that will last for all eternity. We can be sure that what He says in His word is true today, tomorrow, and forever. Having a written English Bible to help us in God’s way is great – we don’t have to guess at what God wants to tell us!
Steadfast in Fellowship: In Acts 2:9, we learn that the church of God is made up of people from various ethnicities. No one people group are better or worse than anyone; in fact, for all those that call upon Christ for salvation, we are one. Our diverse backgrounds serve as celebration that Jesus’s death on the Cross was for all men! Even more - in heaven, we will be one and we will no longer fight with each other over denominations or beliefs. Galatians 3:28 points out, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male or female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
Go find a local bible believing church to serve in! Every church needs a few good women and men to serve.
