Rut Riders, Backsliders, or Joy Gliders:  How we can learn to thank God, Part 1.

5/19/2013

4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

Psalm 107:4-7

After studying Psalm 107, we discover three types of people who are in a relationship with God:  rut riders, back sliders, and joy gliders.  Rut riders are always going in circles; back sliders have a serious relationship problem with God; joy gliders enjoy life so much that if they are not careful, they are not prepared for the storms that may come.  Let’s consider how each type of person can be thankful to God and deepen their friendship with Jesus.

Rut riders can say, “Lord, thank you for finding me!”  Perhaps you can relate to these words:  “They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.” (v.4)  Rut riders are always going in circles, wandering around, repeating the same actions over and over again, and generally feeling lost in this great big wilderness called the world.  The feelings of loneliness and despair become overwhelming; it is like driving around on a rotary and getting so caught up in traffic, you can’t seem to take your exit.  Or maybe you would take the exit, but you’re not sure which exit is the RIGHT one.

Cry out to God even in the seeming emptiness.  You are not doomed to ride on a circle of the endless daily grind hoping tomorrow will be better.  Tomorrow will be better because God is preparing a place for you that Donald Trump himself would be jealous of!  You don’t have to feel hungry or thirsty anymore (v. 5) because the Lord will deliver you out of the distress and lead you to the way of “habitation” also known as Heaven.  These steps we walk on earth are a preparation for the glory yet awaiting us.

The Lord will fill your soul with His goodness.  Of course, you must be in a relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ.  Do you know the Lord? Click here to learn more.
