How can we protect ourselves from bad teachings, Satan's deceptions, or false prophets from turning us away from God? By remembering who Jesus is and what He did for us, and by being diligent to always listen and do God's will!
The Apostle Paul tells his protégé, Timothy, to be strong in the grace of Christ Jesus and to finish the race strong by committing truth to others. He gives three illustrations of enduring hardships: the soldier, the athlete, and the farmer. Each of them teach us how to persevere unto the end.
We need to be ashamed of sin; we must *not* be ashamed of our Savior. Whether it be among family members or people we work with, they should always see that our allegiance is always to the One who died for the world!

All believers have gifts given by God in service for the Lord; we also have a purpose given to us for building up the Kingdom. Sometimes, we allow our fears to disable us from His work; but we have not been given the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind!
