Jesus' birth was a cause of great joy for the godly in Israel. While His presence seemed to threaten kings and rulers, servants like Simeon and Anna not only knew who Jesus was, they rejoiced at the fulfillment of the promise of His arrival!
Sometimes, we get the birth narrative of Jesus wrong. Sometimes, we follow man made traditions rather than what the Bible says. Nonetheless, once the story of the wise men is accurately told, we can see how God unfolds the Christmas story even to strangers in a far off land. It's only in the light of Christ that we can receive His salvation!
Even though initially confused at first, Joseph obeyed God and married Mary because the Lord was at work. Joseph and Mary were servants of God to bring about the more important person: Jesus, Emmanuel -- God with us!
While we rightfully proclaim Jesus' birth during our Christmas celebrations, don't forget the man who came in the power and spirit of Elijah - John the Baptist! Don't forget Zechariah and his wife Elisabeth who, even in old age, gave birth to John. And don't forget that "many shall rejoice at his birth."
